Vernon Neil Schrock, age 95, passed away at 4:09 am on April 15 at his home in Kokomo, IN, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 7, 1927, to Peter and Anna (Schultz) Schrock in Thurman, CO. On December 24, 1946, he married Hilda Miller of Kokomo, IN. To this Union five children were born:

Vernon had 12 surviving grandchildren: Rebecca Hammerstein of Manhattan Beach, CA; Laura (Ted) Wallof of Redondo Beach, CA; Lindsay (Miles) Garrod of Anchorage, AK; Adam Glick of Bozeman, MT; Annie (Eric) Slabach of Berlin, OH; Matt (Rachel) Janzen of Nampa, ID; Ben (Monica) Schrock of Silver Lake, IN; Christopher (Julie) Schrock of Billings, MT; Joe (Mallory) Schrock of Kokomo, IN; Emilie (Logan) Hoffman of Marion, IN; Ryan Schrock of Peru, IN; Lacey (Rob) Schneider of Portland, OR.
Vernon had 22 great-grandchildren, bringing much joy to his life.
Vernon is survived by sisters Cheryl Oswald of Wakefield, NE, Shirley Anderson of Lakewood, CO, and sisters-in-law Pauline Rhine, Barbara Ann Myers, and Myrna Schrock. Family members proceeding him in death are wife Hilda Miller Schrock, parents Peter and Anna Schrock, stepmother Jennie Schrock, two infant half-brothers, brother Ervin Schrock, sister Fern Saffer, and brothers-in-law Claude Saffer, Ralph Oswald, Paul Myers, Richard Rhine, and grandson Christian Schrock.
After his 30-year career of farming and truck driving, he retired in 1989. The next 19 years Vernon enjoyed wintering in Sarasota, FL with Hilda. His hobbies included traveling, gardening, mowing, antique vehicle restoration, and helping anyone in need. He was a member of Howard-Miami Mennonite Church, serving in various leadership capacities.
Vernon was a gentle, fun-loving man, and a generously helpful friend. His love and selfless dedication to Hilda and his family is the legacy he leaves. He had a special fondness for children and animals. He will be sorely missed as a respected, loving, and wise family patriarch.
A service celebrating both Vernon and Hilda’s lives will be held at 1 pm on Monday, April 18 at Howard-Miami Mennonite Church, 3976 East 1400 South, Kokomo, IN, with Pastor Christopher Schrock officiating. Burial will follow at Mast-Hensler Cemetery under the direction of the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, Amboy, IN. Memorial donations may be made to Howard-Miami Mennonite Church.
