Toni M. (Steele) Garner

Toni M. Garner, 71, of Peru, passed away at 6:12 PM, Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. Toni was born in Peru on December 13, 1948, the daughter of Willis and Betty Whitney Steele. She married Steve Garner on May 2, 1997 and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2017. Toni was a 1967 graduate of Peru High School and was an avid fan of PHS Bowling. Toni worked as a bartender for Club 14 and the Maennerchor. Toni enjoyed spending time with family and friends but thoroughly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are daughters Dawn Birnell and her husband Dale of Peru, Heather Sparks of Peru and Nikki Gomez and her husband Carlos of Peru; sisters Toma (Ken) Piotrowski, Trisha (Jim) Pattison, Trina Grant, Terri (Gary) Egan, Traci Steele and Tyla Steele; brothers Steve (Janie) Steele and Mike (Michelle) Steele; grandchildren Zach Birnell, Bailey Mavrick, Dylan Hopper, Christian Hopper, Jacob Hopper, Vanesa Gomez and one grandson on the way; great grandchildren Serenity Birnell and Zerreck Birnell. Toni was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Steve and siblings Tammy Steele, Jeff Steele, Brian Steele; brother-in-law Bob Grant and sister-in-law Cheryle Steele. A service celebrating the life of Toni M. Garner will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru with Pastor Ken Cole officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to the American Cancer Society.
