Roy Leo Martin

Roy Leo Martin, 81, passed away peacefully at 10:41 PM on Monday, November 6, 2023, with his longtime companion at his side.  Roy was born on November 4, 1942, to Maynard L. and Hazel Martin.  Roy married Joyce E. Sonafrank on January 6, 1964, and she preceded him in death on February 2, 2004.  During their married life, they were both active members of the Kokomo Church of the Brethren. 

Roy worked as a meat cutter, starting as a teenager at A&P Grocery Store and retired from Kroger’s in Westfield, Indiana at the age of 65.

Along with his wife and parents, Roy was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois and Joan.  He is survived by one sister, Juanita (Dick) Wiles.  Roy is also survived by his longtime companion, Betty Rife. 

While together, Betty and Roy attended Bennetts Switch Community Church.  They enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, Betty’s homemade cooking, going out to dinner, and each other's company. 

Roy was the proud father and grandfather of two sons, Darrin L. (Laurie) Martin and Andrew L. (Rebecca) Martin, and granddaughters Bailey Katherine, Madison Faith, and Emily Louise Martin, and grandson Jacob Liam Martin. 

Roy loved spending time with Betty’s family including her son Gregory Endsley (Julie), grandchildren Christopher (Kayla) Endsley, Heather Sites (Gerry), and great-grandchildren Brayden, Hudson, and Rozlynn.

A private graveside service honoring Roy will be held at a later date.
