Rodney Linden Potter, 77, of Peru passed away at 8:40 AM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 18, 1946, the son of Willis and Betty (Worthen) Potter.
He married Carrie Ann Harrison, and they had Gary, Rebekah, Robert, and Elizabeth. During their 15 years of marriage, Rod served in the United States Air Force, as the nuclear specialist on a missile launch team. Then he was assigned to bases maintaining and repairing nuclear bombs. His military decorations include the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with tree Oak Leaf Clusters.
Meanwhile, he furthered his education to become an industrial engineer. He left the Air Force and worked in that capacity for Keytronic Corporation. Later, he married Sarah Sue Yowell and adopted her 4 children: Tanya, Clinton, Mike, and Lea. During their 30 years of marriage, they had Lisa, James, and Richard. Finally, he married Patriacita Solomon, his sweetheart in the Philippines. Patty and Rodney had many adventures on both sides of the world, which kept life interesting and wonderful. They finally settled in Peru, Indiana with yet another sailboat and rolling green fields. They were sealed in the Indianapolis, Indiana Temple on August 12, 2023.
Rodney lived a rich life from Industrial engineering to software systems, designing and installing doctor’s office management systems and bulk oil distribution systems. Above all else, his children and grandchildren have provided a rich and rewarding life, including his new family living in the Philippines. Each of his many children are unique as well as loving and generous. He had an eventful and rewarding life which was never boring.
Church service was always a blessing and a challenge providing constant learning. He served two family history missions and two full-time proselyting missions: serving in the Santiago Chile East mission and the West Spanish American mission. In between, he served in several bishoprics and on high councils. He loved the Lord and everywhere he went he was a missionary spreading the wonders of the Gospel.
He wishes to thank the staff at the Huntsman Cancer Center and his wonderful doctor in the Philippines for lengthening his life on earth. He feels very blessed and is looking forward to more adventures in the next life. Special thanks to all of his wonderful children and grandchildren for their love and support. He is also survived by his siblings Genevieve Groesbeck, Sterling Potter, Valerie Buckman, Evelyn Cann, Pam Brimhall, Marilyn Hamblin, Ruthann Carter, Randall Potter, Debra Fredrickson and Deanna Potter who have graciously supported him through many of life’s trials. Family is what makes this life so precious. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Steven and Vernon Potter.
