Roberta Miser Obituary

Roberta Ann Miser, the very best mom, grandma and friend passed through heaven’s gates on December 17th surrounded by her family. Born on September 6, 1931, in Edna, Kansas to George and Faye Helmlinger, Roberta was one of 4 children. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill Helmlinger and sisters Natalie Helmlinger and Colleen Helmlinger. Roberta graduated from Fredonia High School and Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with a registered nursing degree. She married Harold Miser on July 11, 1954, after meeting on a blind date and dating for only a few months. Harold preceded Roberta in death on November 15, 2018. They were married 64 years and set a great example for the rest of us. Family and fun came first and together they raised four boys, three of whom survive: Craig (Lori) of Indianapolis, Mike (deceased), Jerry (Margo) of Indianapolis and Brian (Tina) of Peru, plus honorary son and daughter Randy and Debi Wallick of Peru. They have 9 beloved grandchildren: Christy Chantos, Jamie Miser, Starr Miser Julian, Alex Miser, Briana Miser Dyche, Andrea Miser, Jesse Miser, Philip Miser and Skyler Miser. The Miser family also includes 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Roberta also had one nephew, Rex Miser (Lynn) of Montpelier, Ohio. Roberta set an amazing example for those around her. She was a military wife. She worked as a nurse for many years and ultimately trained many of the nurses who worked in and around Peru over the years. She was a world traveler but enjoyed nothing more than being home, surrounded by her family. Some of the best family memories were made at the campground, the circus building or around the table playing games. A good cook, Roberta passed those skills on to her sons, all of whom can hold their own in the kitchen. Roberta’s laugh was infectious. She had a great sense of humor and was quite the practical joker. She was a woman of strong faith and a member of the Mexico Baptist Church until her death. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend – she will be missed tremendously. But her spirit will live on through her family and the memories of times together will be cherished forever. The family would like to give special thanks to the physicians and staff at Blair Ridge, who provided wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the Peru Circus City Festival. Please celebrate Roberta’s life with the family during a visitation at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.. Funeral services will be Monday, December 23rd at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Kyle Schnitz officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, IN.
