Robert D. Haig

Robert D. Haig, 87, of Peru, passed away at 6:47 P.M., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru. He was born in O’Fallon, IL on August 15, 1930 the son of Charles and Georgia Eblin Haig. Bob married Carol Wackerle Rody at St. Charles Catholic Church on February 11, 1967 and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1998. Robert attended Indiana University and graduated from the Indiana University School of Law in 1954. He practiced law in Peru with the firm of Cole, Haig and Roberts from 1956 until his retirement in 1997. Robert was a US Army Veteran and his Military decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Robert is survived by a brother Jack Haig, West Lafayette; three nephews, Charles M. Haig, West Lafayette; Paul R. Haig, Lafayette; and Fred Rouch, Santee, CA and two nieces Sandy Thompson, Carmel and Sonja Guyer, Georgetown, TX. Several great nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his wife, Carol, Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Mary Ann Haig. Military Graveside Services for Robert D. Haig will be provided by members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
