Phyllis Joann Tussey, 76, of Peru passed away at 9:50 AM, Friday, June 16, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She was born in Harvey, ND on December 20, 1946, the daughter of Ludwig and Martha (Frank) Schlag. On September 11, 1971, Phyllis married her husband, Robert Lee Tussey, at Minot Air Force Base, ND and he preceded her in death on June 3, 2011.
Phyllis graduated from McClusky High School in North Dakota. For many years, she worked at the Base Exchange Warehouse at Minot Air Force Base and also painted houses in the area. She and her husband retired to Merced California. She attended Calvary Assembly of God church there and was an avid volunteer at Harvest Time food ministry. She moved to Peru in her later years and attended Zion Chapel Church, where she was a dedicated prayer warrior. Phyllis enjoyed spending her free time reading her Bible, crocheting, and sewing. But above all, her family was the center of her world. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.
She is survived by her children Russell (Julie) Tussey of Peru, Sherry Tussey of Arvada Colorado, and Robert R. (Evelyn) Tussey of Pueblo Colorado; grandchildren Christen (Shane) Townsend, Frank Hernandez, John Hernandez, Robert L. Tussey, Abigail (Hayden) Smith, Toni Tussey, Ricky Smith, Heather (Dustin) Stanley, Steven Stout and Brittany (Jonathan) Waller; several great grandchildren and her brother Donald (Marian) Schlag of South Dakota.
In addition to her husband Robert Lee Tussey, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Evangaline Hart and Viola Schlag and her brother Richard Schlag.
A service celebrating the life of Phyllis Joann Tussey will be held at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Zion Chapel Church, 915 S. Broadway, Peru, IN, with Pastor Rod Correll officiating. Family and friends will gather from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, IN to Zion Chapel Church.
