Phyllis H. Torrence

Phyllis H. Torrence, 85, of Peru, passed away at 1:25 P.M., Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Dukes Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 10, 1933, in Brazil, IN. Phyllis was born to Eugene and Freeda Powell Knox. At the age of two, Freeda married Phillip M. Blair, who raised Phyllis and she called him “Daddy Phil”. Phyllis married Elmo Torrence in Urbana, IN on December 6, 1957 and he survives. Phyllis was a 1951 graduate of Peru High School and worked at Kroger, Bryan Wire Co. and Eck-Adams. She was a City Council Woman for 23 years, loved Peru and serving the community. Surviving in addition to her husband, Elmo, is her daughter Dawn Renee Torrence of Peru; a sister-in -law Toni Blair and special niece Tina Nichols of Ohio; special friend of 69 years, Georgia Reed of Wabash and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Tommy Knox, William Knox, Walter Knox and Phillip Blair. A service celebrating the life of Phyllis H. Torrence will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru with Lori Goff officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
