Phyllis Gene (Kelsey) Berglan, 93, of Peru, passed away at 9:39 PM, Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Community Howard Regional Hospital, Kokomo, IN. She was born in Amboy, IN on August 14, 1929, the daughter of Homer and Lela (Stilwell) Kelsey. Phyllis married Harry Berglan, Jr. on May 1, 1948, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2015. Phyllis was a 1948 graduate of Converse High School and member of the Amboy Friends Church. She was a farmer’s wife but also had been employed at the Amboy Telephone office, Canterbury House of Peru and Hauske Harlan Furniture House of Peru. Phyllis was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Converse. She had a passion for sewing and quilting and created wonderful gifts for family and friends over the years. She loved camping and wintering in Bradenton, FL for several years. She was the proud mother of two sons, James Alan Berglan (Lavita), Thomas Berglan (Karen); grandchildren Kelley Simmons (David) Amboy, Heath Berglan (Linda) Lafayette, Laura Berglan (Ben Davis) Tucson, Arizona, and Matthew Berglan, Peru and blessed with great-grandchildren, Alaina and Aubrey Simmons, Christopher Skronski (Shelby), Lucas Berglan and Cullin Davis, also surviving is her sister Arlene Stair (Raymond) Carmel, sisters-in-law Jane Ann Troyer (George) Kokomo and Onda Berglan Stroup, Marion and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Lela and Homer Kelsey, husband Harry Berglan, Jr., brothers-in-law Harold and Merval Berglan and nephew Barry Berglan. Family and Friends will gather from 12 Noon to 2:00 P.M., Friday at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main Street, Amboy, IN. A service celebrating the life of Phyllis G. Berglan will follow at 2:00 P.M., at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Parklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Hermon Agnes Community Park, Amboy.
