Patty L. (Butzin) Newnum, 82, of Peru, passed away at 3:27 PM, Thursday, February 5th, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Peru on June 14, 1943, the daughter of Herman W. and Wanda Pegg Butzin Sr. Patty married Wayne R. Newnum on October 22, 1966 and he preceded her in death on December 11, 1993. Patty was a 1964 graduate of Peru High School and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was baptized in faith on July 11, 1943 and confirmed in the church on March 30, 1958. Patty was a chairperson for the Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority and belonged to the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women. She previously served on the Miami County Historical Society and Tourism Committee, the Peru Utilities Board, and served as a Women of the Moose. Patty was very invested in community politics. Patty spent many years sharing her love of Christmas as she became an expert Christmas tree creator and sold her gifts at many craft shows during the season. Patty is survived by her children Kellie (Lynn) Kuhn of Manilla, IN, Lorrie (Ron) Potts of Peru, and Wayne “Richie” (Andrea) Newnum of Peru; grandchildren Emilie (Spencer) Carson, Caroline (Jared) Mills, Michaela (Dakota) Barnes, Christian Newnum, and Ian Potts; great-grandchildren Eleanor Carson, Baylor Mills, and Edison Barnes. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, and her siblings James Butzin, Thanet Ousley, and Herman Butzin Jr. A service celebrating the life of Patty L. Newnum will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 9, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 181 W. Main St, Peru, with Pastor Joshua Dub officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 12:00 – 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St. Peru. There will be a Zeta Service performed by the Alpha Mu Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority at 3:00 PM, Sunday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Alpha Mu Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma.
