Meriell (Mert) J. Turnpaugh, 83, of Peru passed away at 9:05PM on October 31, 2020 at her residence. She was born in Peru, IN on May 3, 1937, the daughter of Joseph Donat and Wilma See. Meriell married Larry J. Turnpaugh at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Peru on August 17, 1957 and he preceded her in death on July 18, 2001.
Meriell graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1955 and attended Ball State University. She and her husband owned and operated Leonda Mobile Home Park in Peru where she served as the secretary. Meriell was also an active member of the Bunker Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
Family was very important to Meriell. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was very caring, giving, and hard-working. Meriell was a devout Christian whose faith guided her in every endeavor.
Meriell is survived by daughters, Kathy Turnpaugh of Peru, Jami (Clifford) Sheets of Peru, Lisa Turnpaugh, and Laurie (Jeff) Martin of Columbus, IN; sisters, Judy Sullivan of Peru and Janet Riggle of Peru; grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Hunter, James (Tamma) Turnpaugh, Stephanie (Mark) Angus, Eric Sheets, Amanda Sheets, Adam (Brooke) Sheets, Travis (Amber) Sheets, Jessica Sheets, Jianna Sheets, Elijah Sheets, Jordan Martin, and Julia Martin; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A service celebrating the life of Meriell J. Turnpaugh will be held at 12:00PM, Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W Main St Peru, with Pastor Bill Sheets officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 10:00AM to 12:00PM on Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association.
