Mary Jo Carpenter, 57, passed away at 4:34 PM, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru. She was born in Kokomo, Indiana on August 8, 1968, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy Armstrong Lorenz. Mary married Devin Carpenter on February 10, 1990, and he survives. Mary was a 1986 graduate of Eastern High School, and was a member of the Berean Dunkard Brethren Church. She loved Jesus, her family,(especially her grandchildren), and her friends. She enjoyed baking, sewing, thrifting for her grandchildren, palm trees, the ocean, flowers and her gardens, all things pink, and her Mini Cooper. She had the kind of strength that can only come from God and lived out her faith daily. Mary is survived by her parents Carl and Dorothy Lorenz of Greentown, her husband Devin, children Tia Carpenter of Miami County, Dylan (Deborah) Carpenter of Miami County, Tiffany Carpenter of Miami County, and Deanna (Elijah) Wray of Kokomo; grandchildren Rylee Carpenter, Reece Carpenter, and Carly Carpenter; siblings Dr. Lloyd (Carol) Lorenz of Miami County, Dr. Doyle (Jane) Lorenz of Peru, Mark (Sharla) Lorenz of Howard County, Randy (Patty) Lorenz of Miami County, and Kevin (Cara) Lorenz of Colorado. A service celebrating the life of Mary Jo Carpenter will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Berean Dunkard Brethren Church, 84 W 2nd Street, Peru, with Revs. Marlin Carpenter and Jason Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Kendall Cemetery, Miami County. Family and friends will gather for visitation from 4:00-8:00 PM, Friday, October 17, 2025, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
