Markey (Mitchel) McCrae, 68, of Peru, Indiana, passed into eternal life on April 1st, 2021.
Markey was born on May 7th, 1952 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Upon graduation at Duncan High School, Markey attended various colleges earning four degrees including a Doctorate in Theology.
Markey enlisted into the United States Air Force where she served her country with pride. While in the Air Force, she met the love of her life, Paul McCrae. They met on a Monday and were engaged by Friday. Two weeks later, on June 7, 1975, they vowed to spend the rest of their lives together.
Markey loved teaching others and traveling. She combined her passions by becoming a teaching consultant; providing technical and robotics trainings for manufacturing companies all around the world. Her most recent position was as a training consultant at GP Strategies Corporation.
Her passion to serve her country continued beyond her military service and into providing presentations and sessions on America’s founding principles, the Founding Fathers, and the US Constitution. Markey took her passion for public service to another level as she became a Butler Township Trustee in Miami, Indiana. She attended Somerset Christian Church in Somerset, Indiana where she taught Sunday School, and regularly shared her voice and love for the Lord with the congregation through songs and specials.
If you met Markey, you met an instant friend - one you thought you had known for years. Her heart for giving and serving others was abundant throughout her life and to everyone she met. Although unable to have children of their own, Markey was a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many. Markey insisted on having her adopted great-grandchildren call her “OGG” (other-great-grandmother). When the first great-grandchild began to speak, “OGG” came out “Auchie” – and that’s what stuck. Auchie leaves behind a deep love for her babies that they will carry with them forever.
Markey is survived by her husband, Paul; brothers Richard (Nancy) Ivie of Wynnewood, OK and Roger (Dian) Ivie of Stratford, OK; twin sister Angela Mitchel of Duncan, OK, sister Judy Perry of McAllen, TX and half-sister Theresa Hardwick of Oklahoma City, OK and countless friends and neighbors who were considered life-long family and will miss her dearly. Proverbs 18:24 “there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
She was preceded in death by sisters Caroline Ivie, Nancy Duval and Linda Wesley and half-brothers Hershel Grant and Terry Grant.
