Mark W. Shaffran, 85, of Peru, passed away at 3:31 P.M., Sunday, January 29, 2023, at his residence after a battle with cancer. He was born in Perrysburg, IN on January 24, 1938, the son of Peter W. and Marguerite E. Fishback Shaffran. Mark married Patricia “Patty” Mahley, who preceded him in death on November 2, 2015.
Mark was a 1956 graduate of Peru High School and attended Purdue University. He served in the US Air Force, worked on the Railroad and was the owner/operator of West Main Liquor Store in Peru. After he retired, he enjoyed delivering the Peru Daily Tribune around the Mississinewa Lake area. It was his daily “road trip” through the country side. Mark was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church and participated in the church’s choir. He was also a member of the Latin Choir in Kokomo.
Surviving are his life partner of 47 years, Rob Burnett; daughters Anne Roth and Gary Roth of Elkhart, and Kathryn “Kate” (Al) Weber of Wabash; grandchildren Amber Roth (TJ), Thaddeus True, Tori True, and Tanner (Riley) True; great-grandchildren, Emmit True, Logan Barrett, Jessa Barrett, Brody Barrett, Austin Barrett and Kane Barrett, and a brother Don Rooker. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patty, and brothers Fredrick (Jack) Rooker, Bernard Rooker, and sister Charlene Rooker. In addition to Mark’s immediate family, he had many nieces and nephews that he gained from the addition of his birth family that he found when he was sixty years old. Sheryl (Jeff) Thaler, Dave (Reggi) Rooker, Greg (Vangie) Rooker, Chris (Antoinette) Rooker, Deedra “Paige” Rooker, Shawn Rooker, Heather Harris, Bobbi Rooker, Jeff Rooker and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM., February 8, 2023, at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home and will conclude with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM. Family and friends may also gather from 10:00-11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the church. A Memorial Mass, celebrating the life of Mark Shaffran will be held at 11:00 A.M., February 9, 2023, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 W. 5th St., Peru, IN; with Msgr. Robert Sell officiating. A luncheon will follow after the service at St. Charles School.
