Marie E. Nickels, 89, of Peru went to be with the Lord at 9:00 AM, Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Blair Ridge in Peru. She was born March 27, 1935, in Macy, IN, the daughter of Lawrence I. Personett and Ellen “Lucille” (Runkle) Personette. Marie taught at St. Charle School for 11 years, worked at Wabash Valley Bank, and retired from First of America Bank in 1990. She graduated from Gilead High School with the class of “53”. Marie attended Manchester College. She loved family, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, and traveling. Marie and her first husband, Edward Struble, had a son Francis “Butch” Struble and a daughter Audrey (Ernie) Verde of Phoenix, AZ. In 1979, she married Lloyd “Bud” Nickels, retired USAF. Together they enjoyed traveling the U.S and internationally. They enjoyed their church affiliation at Oakdale Baptist Church. Marie is survived by her daughter, a stepdaughter, Kathy Elwell, Lafayette, IN, grandchildren, Jennifer (Nathan) Mynett, Michael (Danyel) Struble; step-grandchildren Ryan Elwell, Brad (Amber) Elwell, Evan Elwell, Kara Elwell; great-grandchildren Cole Mynett, Chloe Mynett, Taylor Struble, Tristan Struble; step-great grandchildren Jordann Elwell, Kiera Elwell, Schyler Strong, Hayden Strong, Amelia Elwell, Isaac Elwell, Ethan Elwell, Tyler Elwell, Makenna Elwell; step great, great-grandchild Akeem Elwell; a brother Harold (June) Personett, sister MaryAnn (Jerry) Kuhn, and special companion Francis Downing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd, her son, Francis “Butch” Struble, brothers Earl Personett, and Donald Personett. Friends and family will gather at Eikenberry Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, IN, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 29th, with services led by Chaplin Virgil Barker immediately following to celebrate the life of Marie E. Nickels. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.
