Mable Lee “Mibs” (Eshelman) Combs, 91, of Peru, passed away peacefully, at her residence on Sunday, August 6, 2023. The daughter of Clifford and Frances (Zook) Eshelman, Mable was born in Wolcottville, IN, on July 8, 1932. Mable married Quincy Eugene “Gene” Combs of LaGrange on July 8, 1950, in her hometown of Wolcottville, on her 18th birthday and the day of his 22nd birthday. They shared an enduring love of almost 70 years, until his final day on March 11, 2018.
Mable was the salutatorian of the 1950 class of Wolcottville High School and a member of Zion Chapel. Mable was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Mable and her husband Quincy later owned and operated their own grocery store in Hamlet, IN. After raising their family, they retired to Peru, where they found another farm to fulfill Gene’s love of being around horses and other animals.
Surviving are her children Melody (Kirk) Obst of Bastrop, TX, Denise Taft of South Bend, IN, Michele (Keith) Smith of Mishawaka, IN and Kristina (Michael) Rabe of Peru; grandchildren Phillip (Kali) Heyse, Michael (Cristin) Heyse, Danielle (Andy) Shively, Quincy White (grandson-in-law), Gary Guerrier (former grandson-in-law), Brandon Clevenger, Dustin Rippy, Danny Rabe, Michael (Gretchen) Rabe, Greg (Millie) Rabe; great-grandchildren Marcus, Lucas, Rowan, Kinley, Wesley James, Austin, Taylor, Amiyah, Aaliyah, Javon, Ashira, Kaysen, Cameron, Maveric, Alayna, Haidyn, Mason (Maddy) Trent, Lilly, Oliver and Elliot and one great-great grandchild Mayci. Mable was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Quincy, infant sister Anna Mae Eshelman, sister Cheryl Stevens and granddaughter Tiffany White.
There will be no funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Miami County Helping Hands.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru.
