Larry D. Yoder, 101, Peru Police Chief Emeritus, passed away at 10:10 PM, Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Blaire Ridge Health Campus. He was born in Huntington County, Indiana, on June 23, 1923, the son of Wendal Roy And Inez Marie Marshall Yoder. Larry married Ruth Winters on June 12, 1942, and she preceded him in death September 29, 2015. Larry was a 1941 graduate of Peru High School and a US Navy World War II Veteran. He served on the Peru Police Department from 1953, retiring as Police Chief in 1973. On his 100th birthday on June 23,2023, the Peru Police Department honored him with a plaque celebrating his 100th birthday and being the longest living retired police officer in the State of Indiana. Larry was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, the Peru Maennerchor, Eagle and Moose Lodges, Ft Wayne Shriners, Fraternal Order of Police, Peru-Miami Lodge #67 F&AM, and he received a 50 year pin from the Masonic Lodge in 2017; he was also an Eagle Scout. Following his retirement from the Peru Police Department, he and his wife Ruth owned and operated Roads End Trailer Park and Campgrounds from 1973 to 1992. He was a gregarious man who felt blessed to have many friends. He was an avid bird watcher and thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Larry is survived by his daughter Katherine Clark and her husband Jack of Peru, daughters-in-law Cindy Yoder of Peru and Jodi Curtis of Veedersburg, Indiana; grandchildren Jay Dee Clark, Angie Williams, Steve Clark, Lori Frye and her husband Paul, Jeff Yoder and his wife Diane, Adam Keeling and his wife Kim, Andrew Yoder and his wife Whitney, April Hensler and her husband Chris, and Adam Yoder and his wife Morgan; great-grandchildren Jacob Clark and his wife Brittany, Ryan Clark and his wife Chloe, Seth Clark, Jackson Williams, Megan Watson and her husband JJ, Kristien Van Baalen and her husband Travis, Stella Hensler and August Hensler; great-great-grandchildren Wes, Emma, Cooper, Faith, Frannie, Isla, Daisy, Landin, and Jayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, sons Lance Yoder and Dennis Yoder, and brothers Richard and Rex Yoder. A service celebrating the life of Larry D. Yoder will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Eikenberry Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, with Reverend Doctor Samuel Odubena officiating. Burial will be in Peoria Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM, Friday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Main Street United Methodist Church or the Fraternal Order of Police.
