Kenneth Wane Baxter, 73, formerly of St. Louis, passed away at 3:04 PM, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in St. Louis, MO, on July 23, 1952, the son of James Evans Lenoir and Georgia (Baxter) Slack. Kenneth was a US Army Veteran and his military decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following release from active duty in the Army, Kenneth joined the US Air Force Reserve and served as a combat medic for the next 15 years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. A devoted registered nurse, he has been employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital. Kenneth enjoyed swimming and has served as a life guard. An avid card player, he thoroughly enjoyed playing Bizz Wizz and many other card games. Kenneth loved music and often attended concerts, but was particularly fond of Magic 108 in St. Louis. A debonair individual, he possessed an extensive wardrobe of hats. His reply to the most simple question would be, “Is the Pope Catholic?” Kenneth is survived by his daughter Myeca Dunlap and her husband Charles of Delphi; grandchildren Charles Dunlap II and his wife Alexis of Ft. Wayne, and Gabriel Dunlap of Kokomo; great-grandchildren Charles Dunlap III and Ava Dunlap; siblings Theresa Pickett, Peter Patterson, and Anna Marie Jenkins and her husband Randy; 14 nieces and nephews and 37 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Juanita Smith and Martin Baxter. A graveside service celebrating the life of Kenneth Wane Baxter will be held at 1:30 PM CDT, Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
