Karen Anita (Shively) Harts, 88, of Amboy, passed away at 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 30, 2019 at Visiting Nurses Hospice Home, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born in Miami County, IN on March 29, 1931, the daughter of L. Laurel and Helen W. Childers Shively. Karen married Donald J. Harts on June 29, 1955 and he survives. Karen was a 1949 graduate of Clay Township High School and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from Ball State University. She was a member of McGrawsville United Methodist Church, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Karen was a teacher and Guidance Counselor with North Miami and Deedsville Schools and retired from Maconaquah High School as Director of Guidance in 1977. Karen and Don owned and operated Bressler’s Ice Cream “33” Flavors from 1969 – 1980 and Subway Sandwich Shop from 1983 – 2010. She and Don enjoyed antiquing. Karen always had an a warm smile and a hug to share and never knew a stranger. Surviving in addition to her husband, Don, is a daughter, Denise Harts Miller and her husband Ron of Ft. Worth, TX; sons Dennis J. Harts of Amboy and R. Craig Harts and his wife Sherry of Kokomo; grandchildren Megan (Chris) Ulrich of San Antonio, TX, Cara (Chad) Miller Bush of Denton, TX, Jared (Emily) Harts of Carmel, Natasha (Chris) Beebe of Amboy, Trisha Oman of Carmel, Jordan (Alex) Harts of Amboy, Kaila (Andrew) Adams of Westfield, Dakota (Krysten) Harts of Kokomo and Adam Harts of Amboy; great-grandchildren Landon Adams, Tyler Adams, Braden Adams, Alexis Adams, Axel Adams, Chandler Harts, Liam Oman, Malia Oman, Colton Beebe, Cohen Beebe, Caitlynn Beebe, Theodore Harts, Quinn Harts, Cadence Ulrich and Alessi Ulrich. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Marcia Shively Miller and a daughter-in-law Deborah Harts. A service celebrating the life of Karen Anita (Shively) Harts will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 3, 2020 at McGrawsville United Methodist Church, 9377 S. 300 E., Amboy with Pastor Bob Land and Dennis Harts officiating. Burial will follow at Santa Fe Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M., Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McGrawsville UMC. Arrangement have been entrusted to the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, Amboy.
