Juliann "Julie" Volpert Obituary

Julie Volpert passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2026 in Lafayette, Indiana at the age of 99. Julie was born on May 26, 1927, at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru, Indiana, to Lloyd and Mary Weis. After she graduated from Peru High School in 1945, she volunteered for the Red Cross. She worked for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company in Michigan City and, upon her return to Peru, she worked for American Stationary.

On October 17, 1959, Julie married the love of her life, James Volpert and they raised three children. Later in their marriage, she worked as his legal secretary until his untimely death on April 11th, 1988.

Julie is lovingly remembered by her children, Melissa Volpert of Los Angeles, Susan Bowman of Lafayette, and James Volpert (Angela) of Carmel; and by her cherished grandchildren, Emma and Mary Bowman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; her parents; and her siblings, Betty, Peggy, and Charles.

Julie embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan who rarely missed cheering on the Fighting Irish. She loved to read and enjoyed traveling. From India to Africa, she saw the world with her daughter Melissa. Above all, Julie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and, as a faithful member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Julie was active in the Daughters of Isabella and the Rosary Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 25th, 2026, at St. Charles Catholic Church officiated by Father Paul Cochran. Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery. Julie will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, and her steadfast faith.

Donations can be made in her name to St. Vincent de Paul.
