Judith Rassi Obituary

Judy Ann Rassi, 87 of Peru, Indiana, passed away at 12:50 A.M. on Dec 10th, 2018, at her home after a long illness. She was born in Bloomington, Indiana on August 19, 1931 to Cratus George Jones and Tryphena Belle Warren Jones. Judy married her husband Barrie on Feb 2, 1964, at Beck Chapel located on the I.U. Campus next to the Indiana Memorial Union where they first met. Dr. Beck performed the ceremony. In 1966 Judy moved to Peru with her husband and son Tony where her daughter Juli was born in 1969. During those early years in Peru she worked as a homemaker and part time at several jobs until she joined the staff at Dukes Hospital where she worked for twenty years from 1976 until her retirement in 1996. She became the “Voice of Dukes”, working on the switchboard and the doctor’s exchange where she was always willing to go out of her way to help people in need. A quiet and reserved lady she was always gracious to all she met and she befriended many. She was known by many around town for her workout regimen which was rigorous until well into her 80’s participating in many exercise classes especially at the YMCA and at Jazzercise. Judy was active in a number of organizations over the years including the League of Women Voters, a Teacher’s Wives Organization, Ole Olson, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Parkview United Methodist Church, the Art Club, and the Miami County Historical Society and worked the polls at election time. But, what Judy was best known for was her love of her children and grandchildren on which she doted. She frequently would tell each of them that they were perfect and that she loved them so much. A sometimes reluctant traveler she always enjoyed the trips she took although always anxious to return to her home that she loved. Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a son Benjamin Brown and his wife Debbie of Belleville, Illinois; a son Anthony Brown and his wife Pam of Bloomington, Indiana; and a daughter Juli Windsor and her husband Jack of Peru. There are six grandchildren including Carrie Johnson and her husband Brian of Smithton, Illinois; Kate Mehochko and her husband Guy of Belleville, Illinois; Chris Brown and his wife Miranda of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Emily Brown of Bloomington, Indiana; Jaryn Nethercutt and her husband Lucas of Peru; and Jalyn Windsor of Peru. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren including Loralie, Jack Edward, and Henry Mechohko; Olivia, Ben,Jimmy, Michael, and Joseph Johnson; Evelyn Nethercutt; and Eva Pamela. The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs at I.U. Health, Blair Ridge, Great Lakes Hospice and Comfort Keepers who all cared for Judy this past year. They all provided relief and comfort that is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers direct donations to the Peru Civic Center or the Miami County YMCA Building Project. Judy will be cremated according to her wishes. Please celebrate Judy’s life with her family during a visitation at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral home in Peru, Indiana, on Sunday December 16th from 3-5, followed by a brief service with Rev. Bob Clark presiding.
