Joyce A. Thompson, 88, of Peru, passed away at 9:45 PM, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Blair Ridge Health Campus. She was born in Peru on March 7 1938, the daughter of G. H. Featherstone and Marjorie (Hanson) Griswold. Joyce married Richard D. Thompson on June 15, 1960 and he preceded her in death on September 14, 1979. Joyce was a 1956 graduate of Peru High School and went on to become a bookkeeper for Peru Community Schools. Joyce had a love for photography and joined the yearbook staff where she earned the nickname “Shutter Bug.” She also enjoyed bowling and taking care of her numerous cats. In her younger years, she was an avid camper and would take the family on camping trips to Mississinewa. They also went on special trips to Opryland in Nashville, TN, and Mammoth Cave in KY. Joyce is survived by her two sons, Scott Thompson of Peru and Mark Thompson of Peru. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Richard, and a brother Marvin Burkhardt. A service celebrating the life of Joyce A. Thompson will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St. Peru, with Gary Ashbrooke officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:30 AM, Tuesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Scratching Post Cat Rescue, Inc.
