Joyce Mills, 92, of Peru, passed away peacefully at 2:31 PM, Friday, September, 27, 2024 at her daughter Janet’s home in Columbus, Indiana. She was born in Peru on October 17, 1931, the daughter of Austin W. and Thelma Lees Knott. Joyce married John W. Mills at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Peru on January 15, 1956 and he preceded her in death on December 1, 1978. Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Peru High School and a member of the Peru First Presbyterian Church. She was employed as a bookkeeper with Scheerer & Hyde retiring in 1994. Joyce showed us how to live life beautifully, truthfully and with faith filled simplicity. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family unconditionally. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her husband, John, on the golf course and family cookouts. She is survived by her daughter Janet Mills Jackson of Columbus, IN, son Scott (Bonnie) Mills of Peru; granddaughter Megan (Caleb) Sadowsky and grandson John Jackson, step-granddaughter Samantha (Scott) McAtee, and a great-granddaughter Eleanor Sadowsky. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, and a sister Janet Griffith. A service celebrating the life of Joyce Mills will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W Main St. Peru, IN with Rev Adam Mauman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Thursday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the First Presbyterian Church.
