Joleen Sue Means, 86, Amboy, passed away at 10:00 am on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Century Villa Nursing Home in Greentown, IN. Joleen was born in Miami County, Indiana on Wednesday, March 30, 1938 to James and Anna Faye (Holt) Wimmer. On July 27, 1959, Joleen married Clyde Frankiln Means (deceased) in Kokomo, IN. They were married for 47 years until his passing on October, 3, 2005. Joleen graduated from Kokomo High School in 1955 and went on to earn a degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University in 1958. She also earned her MA in Elementary Education in 1960. Joleen taught elementary education for 38 years. She taught at Randall Elementary (Maconaquah School Corporation) and Holman Elementary (Peru Community Schools) until her retirement in 1996. Joleen was an avid reader and many times she could be found on her favorite couch curled up with a good book. Joleen enjoyed reading various topics, but her favorite was reading about angels and anything spiritual. Joleen was an active member of the Peoria Church and she spent a great deal of her free time keeping the church records. Joleen was a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma (professional society for women educators), and Sigma Delta Pi (professional educator's sorority). Though Joleen spent a great deal of time around other people's children teaching elementary education, her greatest love was her family, especially spending time with her children and later on, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joleen will forever be remembered with love and reverence from her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Faye Wimmer and her husband Clyde Franklin Means. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Jason) Hunter of Bunker Hill and Shawn (Christy) Means of Amboy; grandchildren Grant Blackburn, Annie (Nick) Love, Landon (Aaron) Hunter, Blayne Hunter, Zachary Means, Owen Means; and great grandchildren Bentley Blackburn, Zuri Blackburn, Liam Love and Lynnlee Love. Joleen was a great daughter, wife, person, friend, colleague, and especially mother. She will be sorely missed by those close to her. The family will receive visitors from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Friday, August 23rd at Peoria Church with a funeral service to celebrate Joleen's life at 6:00pm. Pastor Brian Daniels will be officiating. A graveside burial attended by family will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Peoria Church, 5575 E 325 S, Peru, IN 46970.
