John Woodard Obituary

John Robert Woodard, 64, of Peru, passed away at 2:55 P.M., Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. John was born in Marion, Indiana in 1955, the son of Jack and Helen Puvel Woodard. He married Pam Beck on April 4, 1981 and she survives.

A 1973 graduate of Marion High School, John was a member of the Parkview United Methodist Church. He worked as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service in Peru until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Pam, he is survived by two daughters, Stefanie (Zach) White, of Macy and Jennifer (Denver) Shindle, of LaVergne, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jonathan White, Benjamin White, Levi White, Rosemary Shindle, and Caroline Shindle; sisters, Chris (Rick) Popplewell, Debbie Katra, Becky Woodard, and Cathy (Mike) Trevino and a brother, Jay Woodard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Helen Woodard.

John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Everyone who came in contact with him experienced that love. He had a zeal and passion for life that spilled into his favorite hobbies: the LA Dodgers, snow skiing, and of course the Green Bay Packers. On Sundays, you would find him in a tie at church in the morning, then head-to-toe green and gold in the afternoon. Known affectionately to his close friends as “Mr. Christmas”, John loved decorating and spreading Christmas cheer. Adding additional magic to his story, he and his beloved wife Pam, hired into the Peru Post Office on the same day and were married one year later. His job as a mail carrier gave him plenty of opportunities to love on another one of his great passions, dogs. John was a kid at heart, and loved to make people laugh. He was kind, thoughtful, generous, and selfless, always looking for opportunities to help others. And his wit and humor will be remembered by everyone who knew him. But most importantly, he was a Christ follower who loved the Lord and is now free to be held in the arms of his Savior.

A private service will be held at the Parkview United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert J. Clark officiating. Services have been entrusted to the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to Donate Life America, your church of choice, or a local animal shelter.
