John Paul Smith, 53, of Peru, IN passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born at Duke’s Hospital on October 20, 1969 to James and Connie Smith.
John’s early education was at the Indiana School of the Blind, later transitioning to the Peru School System, graduating from Peru High School. He then went on to receive his degree in Political Science, Bachelor of Arts with Cum Laude Honors at Ball State in 1992. He spent his career at American Stationary for 27 years.
John was a quiet and gentle soul who had many interests. He was an avid reader, loved to stay up to date on current political events. He followed the tennis tour, cheering his favorite player, Rafael Nadal. He also loved to watch Jeopardy, at which he was a champion. You could always find his cat, Lucy, by his side. John will be dearly missed for his conversational wit, his quick remarks, and his thoughtful observations.
He is survived by his mother Connie Smith of Peru; sisters Kim (John) Martin of Peru, Vicki (Kerry) Worl of Bunker Hill; brother Bryan (Kelly) Eyman of Fort Wayne; his beloved cat, Lucy, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father James Smith and younger brother Jamie Smith.
John will be greatly and deeply missed by his family. The family would like to acknowledge and thank American Stationary for accommodating him this past year.
