Joanne M. (Hierholzer) Malott Birkey

Joanne M. Malott Birkey, 88, of Peru, passed away at 3:20PM on November 19, 2020 at the Blair Ridge Health Campus in Peru. Joanne was born in Aza, Missouri on June 9, 1932, the daughter of Edward Hierholzer and Genevieve Jirik. She married Clifford Malott Jr. on July 9, 1948 and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1981. She then married Richard Birkey on August 12, 1989 and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2001. Joanne graduated from Clay Township High School and was a lifelong seamstress. She grew up on a dairy farm south of Peru and instilled in her family a good moral work ethic. To be raised by, to be loved by, and to have lived with an exceptional human being is a wonderful gift. She is survived by her children Greg Malott of Peru, Thomas (Chanda) Malott of Walton, Lance (Deanna) Malott of New Castle, and Chad (Julie) Malott of Peru; grandchildren Mikaela Malott, McKenna Malott, Macauley Malott, Grant Malott, Olivia Malott, Landon Malott, Jackson Malott, Corbin Malott, Macey Titus, Mitchel Malott, Mallory Rebollar, Cassidy Malott, Bailey Brazzel, Chris Malott, and Brandi Wilhoit; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to Clifford and Richard, Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Terry Malott and Teresa Malott; a grandchild, Craig Malott; and siblings, John Hierholzer, Ray Hierholzer, Irene Hamby, Dorothy Bird, Carol Johnson, and Ruth Fenimore. A private service celebrating the life of Joanne Malott Birkey will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W Main St, Peru, IN. A private viewing will be held prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the St. Charles Catholic Church.
