Jimmie R. Bond (SMSGT, USAF, ret.), 85, of Peru passed away at 2:30 AM, Friday, November 11, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Jasonville, IN on December 17, 1936, the son of Roscoe and Violet Myrick Bond. Jim married Bonnie Ross on April 14, 1958, and she survives.
Jim was a 1956 graduate of Broad Ripple High School, was a US Air Force Veteran and a Cuba, Vietnam and Desert Storm Veteran. His military decorations include the Air Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed camping, his vegetable garden and talking to everyone. He never knew a stranger.
Jim was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and the Peru Lions Club. He was a retired Grissom Air Force Employee and the founder of the Fall Creek Milling Company of Indianapolis.
Surviving in addition to his wife Bonnie is a son Christopher Bond and his wife Marina of Bunker Hill; daughter Kim Heltzel and her husband Dale of Akron, IN; sister Susie Robinson and her husband Ammon of Crossville, TN; grandchildren Ben (Megan) Bond, Brian (DeLane) Bond, Amanda (Charlie) Parker and Andrew Heltzel; and a great granddaughter Emma Bond.
A service celebrating the life of Jimmie R. Bond will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main Street Peru with Rev. Dr. Samuel Odubena officiating. Burial, with full Military Honors, will be in Rankin Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Friday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
