Janet Louise Griffith (nee Knott) passed away peacefully on Oct 14, 2021 at the age of 95 in her home at 3015 S. Frances Slocum Trail in Peru, IN.
Janet was born to Austin and Thelma Knott (nee Lees) in Peru, IN, Sept 12, 1926. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1944. Janet married the late Gerald C. Griffith in 1947, and they lived together in Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee for 41 years until Gerald passed away in 1988. Janet is survived by her daughter Patti Gallagher and husband John of Toledo, OH - son David Griffith and wife Julie of Perrysburg, OH - daughter Suzanne Prestien and husband Mark of New Wilmington, PA - son Andy Griffith and wife Sara of Roanoke, VA - daughter Kathleen Griffith of Peru, IN - daughter Amy Darland and husband Dick of Peru, IN - and sister Joyce Mills of Columbus, IN.
She also leaves behind grandchildren David Griffith, Gerald “Charlie” Griffith, Patrick Griffith, Emma Prestien, Reece Griffith, Mark “Austin” Griffith, Ashlee Martin, and Laurel Darland, as well as great grandchildren Charlotte, Alex, Miles & Cole Griffith and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janet was predeceased by her husband and parents, brother Roy Knott, brother-in-law John Mills, daughter-in-law Lois Griffith (nee Stotts), and her beloved son Reece Griffith.
Janet Louise – “Lou” to her husband and children -- loved learning, reading, puzzles and all manner of problems, and up until her later years, she was not to be found without a new book and a crossword or cryptoquote puzzle close at hand. Janet’s skill and intelligence would have shone in whatever endeavor she chose as her life’s calling: her calling came to be her family. She could mend a life-threatening skinned knee with a hidden smile, Bactine and a Band-Aid. She would miraculously fix what a child thought was a well-hidden heart break or disappointment with a delicious plate of spaghetti and meat balls or chocolate chip cookies. She could get 7 kids to 7 different functions in 7 different locations at the same time, on time. She could remedy, “Mom, it hurts when I do this,” with a quick “Don’t do that” and all was well. She could sew you a new outfit for a dance as easily as she could swat your butt with a wooden spoon for swearing. The wooden spoon or yard stick thing was always kind of a joke, as she was never really feared. She didn’t need to be because she was respected and loved by all who knew her well and by her family most of all. She will be missed in this world and cherished in the next.
