Hilda (Miller) Schrock, age 93, peacefully passed away on October 16, 2020, at the family home where she was born and later married. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Hilda was born near Kokomo, Indiana, on August 15, 1927, to Alvin and Polly (Hochstedler) Miller. On December 24, 1946, she was married to Vernon Neil Schrock, formerly of Thurman, Colorado. They met at Hesston Academy and College, Hesston, Kansas. Hilda and Vernon resided in Indiana and raised five children: Linda (Mike) Schrock, Coupeville, WA; Bonnie (Jon) Glick, McCall, ID; Joyce (Jerry) Janzen, Nampa, ID; Marlin (Lou Ann) Schrock, Kokomo, IN; and
Gary (Terri) Schrock, Kokomo, IN.
Hilda had 12 grandchildren: Rebecca (Adam) Siegman of Manhattan Beach, CA; Laura (Ted) Wallof of Redondo Beach, CA; Lindsay (Miles) Garrod of Anchorage, AK; Adam Glick of Bozeman, MT; Annie (Eric) Slabach of Millersburg, OH; Matt (Rachel) Janzen of Nampa, ID; Ben (Monica) Schrock of Silver Lake, IN; Christopher (Julie) Schrock of Billings, MT; Joe (Mallory) Schrock of Amboy, IN; Emilie (Logan) Hoffman of Kokomo, IN; Ryan Schrock of Peru, IN; Lacey (Rob) Schneider of Lathrop, CA.
Hilda enjoyed 21 great-grandchildren.
Hilda is survived by sisters Pauline Rhine, Barbara Myers, Shirley (Bob) Anderson, and Cheryl Oswald. Family members proceeding her in death were: parents Polly (Hochstedler) and Alvin Miller; parents-in-law, Pete and Jennie Mae Schrock; sister-in-law Fern Saffer and husband Claude; brothers-in-law Ervin Schrock, Ralph Oswald, Paul Myers, and Richard Rhine; and grandson, Christian Schrock.
Hilda was a past member of the Clay Township Miami County Extension Home Ec Club and the Friendship Haven Board of Directors. She was a long term active member of Howard-Miami Mennonite Church and served in various capacities.
Hilda was a respected avid quilter-artist and she was a generous teacher of her craft. She was a loving, loyal, and wise family matriarch, who will be sorely missed.
Due to the pandemic, public visitation and services will not be conducted. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date post-Covid when travel and public gatherings are safe. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, Amboy, IN, with internment at Mast-Hensler Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Howard-Miami Mennonite Church.
