David Rabe, 92, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 14, 2024. David was born on August 10, 1932, in Peru, Indiana to parents Herbert Hugo Otto Rabe and Helen Alice Siegfried. He graduated from Clay Township High School in 1950. On June 29, 1952, he married Marie Lee who proceeded him in death on May 17, 2018. He was also proceeded in death by sisters, Norma Bergman and Roberta Swick. Surviving family members include two daughters, Teresa (Teri) Rabe and Davenne Benge (Matt) and four sons, Herbert Michael Rabe (Kristie), Jeffery Rabe, David Scott Rabe(Kristi) and Brady Saylor (Shelly). Additionally, grandchildren Nathan Bickel, Jamy Bickel (Pam) Kily Miles, Daniel Rabe, Michael Rabe (Gretchen), Gregory Rabe (Millie), Dustin Rippy, Kristin Maldonado (Amilcar), Zach Rabe, Jacob Benge, Matthew Benge, Derek Rabe (Balee), Breanna Pear and Brandon Pear. David has 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. David was a proud Korean War Veteran and his military decorations include the Korean Service with 1 Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Dave retired from Chrysler Corp. as a pipefitter. He also retired from the Railroad and owned the Log Cabin Restaurant. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, playing cards, and trips to the casinos. He was a class act, with an impeccable sense of style that included his love of bow ties. Dave will be greatly missed. He was a member of Maennerchor, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, Eagles, Elks, Moose Lodge and American Huey 369. Military Graveside Service, provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy. A celebration of life will be on October 18, 2024 starting at 5:00 P.M. at the Peru Maennerchor. Flowers may be sent on the day of celebration to the Maennerchor. Donations may also be sent in his honor to the Scratching Post Cat Rescue, Peru.
