Halton ‘David’ Kinney of Peru, Indiana passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the age of 82.
David was born in Shelbiana, Kentucky, in 1938, to father Earl Kinney and mother Betty Catherine Kinney. The second youngest of nine children, Halton graduated from Virgie High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1959 to 1962. After serving his country, Halton attended Pikeville College before beginning his career with the C&O Railroad. It is during this time that he met his loving wife, Naomi, moved to Peru, Indiana, and commenced their 57 year adventure. He retired from the railroad in 1990 after 28 years of service.
David dearly loved his family and friends, and especially enjoyed spoiling his children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and loved Kentucky basketball with a passion. He was active in a number of service clubs, as he enjoyed spending time with friends. Generous, loyal, and full of life, he made the world a better place, and will be dearly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
David was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Charles and Robert Kinney, and his sisters, Ava Kinney, Rebecca Cisco and Louellen Hughes. He is survived by his wife Naomi; son Todd Kinney and his wife Dara from Carmel, Indiana, and Tara Edwards and her husband Bryan, from Peru, Indiana; grandchildren Olivia and Ava Kinney, and Gavin, Griffin, Lainey, and Sawyer Wouster, Brantlee and Kaelyn Edwards; and sisters Anita Elswick, Eudoia Brophy, and Carolyn Rosenberg.
A visitation for David is planned for Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home on 84 W. Main Street, Peru, Indiana, 46970.
