George Steven Washburn (Steve), 76, of Newburgh, Indiana, passed away October 27, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Peru, Indiana on December 27, 1947, the son of George and Jean Bennett Washburn. Steve married Candace Chudzik and she survives. Steve was a lifelong resident of Indiana and resided in Peru, Fort Wayne and Newburgh. Steve was a 1966 graduate from Maconaquah High School and as a junior, he represented Maconaquah High School as a participant in Hoosier Boys State. He was a 1970 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Business Administration and a 1974 graduate of Indiana University School of Law. Steve was also an Army Reserve veteran. Steve had many occupations over the years, but his true passions were Purdue Football and Basketball as being an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. In addition to his wife Candace, Steve is survived by his son Michael (Siobhan) Washburn of Westminster, Colorado; sisters Julie Magee of Bloomington, Indiana and Ann (John) Parker of Lafayette, Indiana; a niece Renee Altman of Naperville, Illinois, and a nephew Maj. Patrick J. Parker of Caledonia, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Robert Magee. The Miami County Military Rites Unit will provide military graveside services at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from Noon – 1:45 PM, Saturday, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St, Peru.
