George F. Jackson, 85, of Peru, passed away at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Kokomo, IN on October 14, 1935, the son of Rev. Ralph W. and Augusta Crossland Jackson.
George was a 1954 graduate of Peru High School and attended Grambling State University. He was an Assistant Tech Engineer at Lockheed-Martin Missile and Space Corp. A man of great faith and integrity, George was active member of the Wayman AME Church where he had served as a trustee. He was known throughout the community for hosting the annual BBQ at the Wayman AME Church. In 2001 he founded the Wayman AME Church community breakfast which was later changed to the George Jackson community breakfast. George was the first male cheerleader at Peru High School and he served on the Board of Directors at the YMCA. He always had a positive attitude and never had bad word to say about anybody.
George is survived by a brother Perry Eugene Jackson of San Jose, CA, sister Julianne Bowlds of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph Jackson, Phillip Jackson, Charles Jackson and John Jackson and sisters Mildred Hawkins and Mayme VanCleave.
A Private family service will be held at 12 noon, Monday, January 4, 2021 at the Eikenberry- Eddy Funeral Home, Peru, with Pastor Maurice Reed and Pastor Annettia Brooks-Rankin officiating. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 A.M. until noon, Monday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN. The Service will also be live streamed on Facebook at Eddy Funeral Homes, Inc.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to the Wayman AME church.
