Gary A. Edwards, 74, of Peru, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born in Peru, Indiana, on September 8, 1950, the son of Gerald H. and Vivian D. Burke Edwards. Gary married Jane A. Mattox on June 1, 1975, and she survives. Gary was a 1969 graduate of Maconaquah High School and attended Indiana State University for three years. In high school, Gary competed in track and field, competing in the pole-vault and the men’s 4X400 meter relay. Gary continued to love sports, becoming a life-long cubs fan and always rooting for the Purdue Boilermakers. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gary always enjoyed being outdoors, especially for big cookouts at the family pond, or camping with the kids at Indiana Beach or Prophets Town State Park. Gary loved being a farmer and was very fond of his John Deere equipment, he was a pickleball fanatic, but above all, he loved the Lord. Gary lived by his faith. Gary is survived by his wife, Jane, his son Greggory A. Edwards and his partners Megan Edwards and Linda “L.E.” Bradford; grandchildren Grant Edwards, Jackson Edwards, Garrison Edwards, and Gwendolyn Edwards; and a sister, Marcia Harkema. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kelly Ann Edwards, a sister Sharon Berkheiser and her husband Charles, and a brother-in-law Bob Harkema. A service celebrating the life of Gary A. Edwards will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the McGrawsville Community Church, with Pastor Ryan Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at the Rankin Cemetery. Family and friends will gather Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to McGrawsville Community Church, Rankin Cemetery, or the Peru YMCA.
