Elmo A. Torrence, 95, of Peru, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 28, 2025, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with his devoted daughter Dawn by his side. Elmo was born on June 18, 1929, in Mishawaka, Indiana, the fifth child of Charles Raymond and Ilah Fern Walker Torrence. He married Phyllis Knox on December 6, 1957, and she preceded him in death on February 27, 2019. Elmo worked for Thrush/Amtrol for 43 ½ years as an inspector, retiring in 1991. Since 2000, Elmo enjoyed his time serving as the Crossing Guard for Blair Pointe and Elmwood Elementary Schools. For many years, he owned Quarter Horses and trained horses for other people. Elmo is survived by his daughter Dawn Torrence of Peru. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Joan Torrence of Mishawaka, Shirley Torrence of Osceola, several nieces and nephews in Indiana, Ohio and Texas, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis, five brothers and three sisters, and his nephew Dwayne Torrence. A service celebrating the life of Elmo A. Torrence will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St. Peru with Lori Goff officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Stroke Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
