Elma Louise Parker, 92, of Peru, passed away Monday, August 1, 2022 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne. She was born in Miami County, near the Snowhill Bridge, on Sept. 30, 1929, the daughter of Peter E. and Clara Ellen Kendall Lorenz. Elma married Robert Eugene Parker on May 6, 1950 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2021.
She attended North Grove Elementary, Eastern at Greentown and Somerset High School. She had a passion to cook for 3 or 100 people and cooked at Butler school while her children were attending school. She later cooked at First Baptist Church for their fellowship meals every Thursday night. In 1994 She became the Director for the Peru Civic Center and retired in 2005. Before retiring, she and her daughter Joleen, compiled her own personal cookbook and sold over 2200 copies.
Elma was a member of the Loree Brethren Church where she served as a Deaconess for over 40 years.
She is survived by sons James Parker of Amboy and William Parker of North Manchester, a daughter Joleen Parker of Peru, grandchildren Heather (Jeff) Stevens, Tiffany (Stu) Reed, Christopher Parker, Jeremy (Amber) Parker and Erin (Michael) Opp and great-grandchildren Nathan Stevens, Riley Stevens, Hannah Reed, Kaden Reed, Benjamin Reed, Oliver Reed, Kiley Parker, Zach Parnell, Kodie Parker and Ashton Parker. Elma was preceded in death by her parent, her husband, Robert, a daughter, Joyce Annette Parker, a daughter-in-law, Carla Parker, a grandson, Ryan K. Parker, three brothers and five sisters.
A service celebrating the life of Elma L. Parker will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Loree Brethren Church, 8483 S. Strawtown Pike, Bunker Hill, IN with Dr. Lloyd Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, Aug. 5th at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Miami County Helping Hands or Riverside Christian School, Lost Creek, KY.
