Earl A. Glassburn Jr.

Earl A. Glassburn, Jr., 85, Kokomo, Indiana, passed away at home Tuesday, June 18, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Earl was born in Peru on August 10, 1933 the son of Earl A. Glassburn, Sr. and Garnet Lucille (Lees) Glassburn. He spent many of his early years working at the Peru Municipal Golf Course where his father was the golf pro. He graduated from Peru High School in 1952. He joined the United States Army in 1954 and served in Germany until 1956. While in Germany, he married the former Joycelene C. Hoppes of Peru on September 10, 1955.

Upon his return he resumed his employment at Delco Radio in Kokomo. He retired from Delco Electronics after 35 years of service as a general supervisor.

Earl enjoyed traveling, playing golf, wood working and tinkering in the garage. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was a great storyteller. He was a handyman who helped many people with countless projects large and small. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served ten years with Miami County Military Rites Honor Guard.

Earl is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Joyce Glassburn; son Earl Kent (Michelle), Swayzee, IN; daughter Marty (Glen) Gill, Greencastle, IN; four grandchildren, Bryce Glassburn, Ashley (Josh) Rennaker, Emily (Nathan) Meiner, and Ethan Gill; two great-granddaughters Bella and Ady; one sister Judy (Jim) Featherstone; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Visitation is Friday, June 21 from 2 pm to 8 pm at Eikenberry Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, IN. The funeral will be on Saturday, June 22 at 10:30am, at the funeral home officiated by Pastor John Key of Maple Run Friends Church. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by Miami County Military Rites Unit.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Miami County Military Rites Honor Guard or Southern Care Hospice Services.
