Dorothea Joan Jackson, or Joan as she was known, 90, entered her eternal rest on December 14th, 2022 at Dukes Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 19th, 1932 to Carlos and Margaret (Van Norman) Life in Chicago, IL. On September 26th, 1954, she married Jack B Jackson, and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2000. Surviving are sons Jeffrey Jackson and partner Penny Fox, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Michael Jackson and wife Nancy, Cleveland Heights, OH; Timothy Jackson and wife Kecia, Peru, IN; daughter Julie Commons and husband Justin, Lafayette, IN. Joan had ten grandchildren, Abigail (Chris) Farrelly, Adeline (Weston) Harcourt, Ellen (Skye Clark) Jackson, Amelia (Andrew) Adelsperger, Sarah Jackson, Tyler Commons, Avery (Zach) Saylor, Martha Jackson, Abigail Commons and John Jackson and two great-grandchildren, Harry and Robin Harcourt. She is also survived by her sister Lois (G. Michael) Ball, and was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Dorothy Life. Joan was a 1950 graduate of Peru High School, and attended Butler University for two years before graduating in 1954 from the Indiana University Medical Center with a degree in X-Ray Technology. She was an x-ray technician for four years before becoming a full-time mom, but she always retained a deep interest in all things medical. She was an over 60-year member of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., attending both in Peru and for a ten-year period in Celina, Ohio. She was very active in the church, serving as treasurer in both locations. She was involved in church finances and stewardship for over 40 years, and also served as an Elder in Peru. She lived out her faith by participating in the Gateway Carebear Ministry, and she also developed and performed a one-woman show entitled “Mary Magdalene – The Crucifixion and Resurrection Through the Eyes of a Woman”. She performed this play numerous times in Miami County churches over a five-year period. Joan was involved in the community as well, serving on the board of directors of the Wabash Valley Bank and Trust Company, First of America Bank, Miami County Gateway Training Center, Bona Vista Rehabilitation Center, and the Mt. Hope Cemetery Association. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma and Tri Kappa sororities, and a past president of the Peru Art Club. The family is especially grateful to all of the Senior Helpers Joan had assisting her over the years, and special thanks goes to Debbie Snyder, Donna Cook, Sharon Hopper and MyKayla Robison for their years of service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 17, 2022 at The First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Main St., Peru. Visitation will from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in the sanctuary. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Peru. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jack and Joan Jackson Community Fund via the Miami County Community Foundation, 13 E. Main St. Peru, IN 46970.
