Doris Hierholzer, 88, of Peru, passed away at 8:39 PM, Friday, February 9, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Peru, IN on January 16, 1930, the daughter of Earl and Erdia Billhimer Hartleroad. Doris married John E. Hierholzer in Rochester, IN on September 17, 1947 and they were married 70 years before he preceded her in death on September 30, 2017. Doris was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of Christ in Peru. She enjoyed playing the organ and toured the state of Indiana playing the calliope in many parades. John and Doris spent many winters in Haines City, Florida. She cherished her family and was warm and hospitable; frequently opening her home to family and friends. Through her entire life, her personality was contagious and she exhibited a quick wit and engaging sense of humor. She is survived by her children Janet Copp and her husband Mac of Peru, Joyce Damron and her husband Johnny of Ohio, Jack Hierholzer and his wife Joyce of Columbia City, IN, Julie Clay and her husband Brad of Mooresville, IN and Jeff Hierholzer and his wife Tammy of Peru; a sister-in-law Margie Hartleroad; twenty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years John, sons David and Danny; three brothers Cecil, Wayne and Melvin. The family would like to say a special thank you to the incredible caregivers who provided quality care and service to Doris during her time of need. A service celebrating the life of Doris Hierholzer will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the First Church of Christ, 2584 S. Business 31, Peru, IN 46970 with Shane Capps officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday Feb 17, 2018 at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Church of Christ.
