Donnelle Wayne Wright, 95, passed away on September 13, 2020, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Peru. He was born in Fountain County, IN on May 30, 1926 the son of Charles and Martha Marr Wright. Wayne married Beverly Jean Wright on February 14, 1948 and she preceded him in death.
A member of America’s Greatest Generation. Wayne left high school in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. San Juan. A U.S. Navy WWII veteran his military decorations include, the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1946 Wayne returned to high school and graduated from Chili High School in 1947.
Beverly and Wayne were the parents of two daughters, Melody (Carl) Edwards of Peru and Joetta Stephan of Kokomo. Wayne retired from the City of Peru Utilities in 1992 and he and Beverly moved to Bradenton, FL where they resided until her death in 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Joetta Stephan and brothers, Vaughn, Dean, Keith, Max, and Jack. He is survived by one daughter, Melody (Carl) Edwards, a sister, Betty Skowera of Massachusetts, seven grandchildren, Brian (Jami) Edwards, Brad (Tara) Edwards, Brandi (Rick) Mouser, Rick Brown, Sandy (John) Wilson, Leslie Stephan, and Bobby (Courtney) Stephan, 27 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren.
He was a member of Miami County VFW Post 2067, the American Legion and the Grace Brethren Church in Peru.
He loved his music, baseball and his bird and squirrel feeders that Miller’s placed outside his window. His pride and joy was the 2007 red Mustang Convertible that he purchased in October 2019. He didn’t get to spend much time with it but he had always wanted one and he made that wish come true.
A service celebrating the life of Donnelle Wayne Wright with be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, September 28, 2020 at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru with Pastor David Jodry presiding.
Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Military Honors will be provided by the Military Rites Unit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to Miami County Helping Hands.
