Donald E. Smith

Donald E. Smith, 82, of Amboy, IN, passed away at 2:32 A.M., Saturday, June 17, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Marion, IN on January 1, 1941, the son of George W. and Harriett Gates Smith. Donald married Glenna I. Smith in Lousa, KY on April 23, 1960 and she survives. Donald was a 1958 graduate of Swayzee High School and a member of the Converse Church of Christ. He was a US Air Force Veteran and his military decorations include the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a retired truck driver and Grant Co. farmer. Family was very important to Donald and he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family unconditionally. Surviving in addition to his wife, Glenna, is a son Wendell Smith of Ft. Wayne, a daughter Vicki Hall and her husband Matthew of Winchester, VA; grandchildren Samuel Hall and Katherine Hall and several brother’s in law including Randy Smith and his wife Marjorie of Hartford City, IN. Donald was preceded in death by son Donald S. Smith, a brother George Wendell Smith and sisters Doris Kaye Wilkens and Lola Elaine Akers. A service celebrating the life of Donald E. Smith will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, June 23, 2023 at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy with Pastor Roy Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Converse Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Friday at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
