Clarence M. Cobb, Jr., M.D.

Clarence M. Cobb, Jr., M.D., was born in Chicago, IL, February 28, 1924 to Clarence Sr. and Rose (Nee Greener) Cobb. He graduated from Blue Island Community High School in 1942. He started a pre-med program at Morgan Park Junior College and enlisted in the Army Reserve November 1942 but wasn’t called to active service until June 1943. Clarence served with the Army in New Guinea and the Philippines. February 1946, he returned to the U.S. and was discharged. He resumed his studies at Roosevelt University and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. June 1947 he married Jane Davis. In 1951, he graduated from U of I with an M.D. He had post-graduate training in Pathology in Lafayette and the Indiana University Medical Center. Jane passed away in 1953. Two daughters had been born to this marriage. Dr. Cobb was certified by the American Board of Pathology (Pathologic Anatomy & Clinical Pathology) in 1956. October 13, 1956, he married Beulah I. Marner, They moved to Logansport, IN, where he practiced pathology at the Cass County Hospital and Longcliff State Hospital. Dr. Cobb accepted the position of associate pathologist at Winona Hospital in Indianapolis. He was appointed to the visiting teaching staff at the Indiana University Medical School reaching the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology. In 1978 he joined Physicians Clinical Laboratory in Lafayette. He served the Tipton Hospital and other areas for them retiring in 1989.Dr. Cobb is a former fellow of The American Academy of Forensic Sciences, The American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the College of American Pathologists. He is a member of the Paul Coble Post 26 of the American Legion. His greatest pleasure was being with his family. He also enjoyed butchering, curing hams and making different types of sausage. He was an avid gardener and liked to preserve foods. Cooking was also a hobby. Dr. Cobb attended the Howard- Miami Mennonite Church. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, four children and their spouses and four grandchildren, Judith and Thomas Dailey of Seattle WA, Dr. Cathy Cobb and Dr. Monte Fetterolf of Aiken, SC, Daphne Harris of Indianapolis and Clay Cobb of Hollywood, CA. The grandchildren are Clara Chaney of Seattle, Matthew, Benjamin and Daniel Fetterolf of Aiken, SC. A Graveside service celebrating the life of Dr. Clarence M. Cobb, Jr. will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the Hensler-Mast Cemetery, Howard County, IN., with Pastor Ben Schlegel officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday at the Howard-Miami Mennonite Church, 3976 E 1400 S, Kokomo, IN 46901. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, Amboy, to the Howard-Miami Mennonite Church or the Indiana Medical History Museum, 3045 W. Vermont St, Indianapolis, IN 46222-4943
