Cary D. Dawalt, 85, of Peru, passed away at 9:15 P.M., Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born in Peru, IN on December 18, 1938, the son of Dale L. Dawalt and Jewell Winter Ewing. Cary was a graduate of Peru High School and Indiana University. He was a US Navy Veteran and his Military decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Cary served on the Peru Police Department from 1962 retiring as Chief of Police in 1983. Following retiring from the Peru Police Dept. Cary owned and operated the Paramount Lounge in Peru. Cary was an avid golfer, fisherman and was a devoted father and grandfather. Throughout his life, Cary demonstrated his compassion and gentleness to everyone he met. No one was a stranger, and he greeted everyone he met with a smile, a hug or a handshake. He was the patriarch of the family – the rock upon which everyone could rely. Cary is survived by his children Garry (Kathy) Dawalt of Peru, Dale (Tina) Dawalt of Carlsbad, CA, Jeff Dawalt of Peru, Jodi (David) Grant of Denver, IN and Cara Dawalt of Converse, IN; a brother Kraig (Caroline) Dawalt of Logansport, IN ; grandchildren Kyle, Phillip, Nick, Jake, Zach, Nick, Codie, Carter, Colby, Dylan, Lauren, Alex, Annie, Alex, Emmy, Maddie, Caleb, Carson, Anali, Nick, Jake, Jaime, Kayla and several greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, especially his nephew John Michael, his fishing buddy. Cary was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Alice and Carol, a brother Kent and his twin brother Gary. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Cary Dawalt will be held at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, with Cary’s nephew Rev. Erick Dawalt officiating. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Military Graveside Services provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home to FOP Lodge #72.
