Carolyn Lewis, 83, of Peru, IN. died peacefully Saturday, June 18, 2022 at home with family at her side. Carolyn was born on December 5, 1938, in Peru, IN, the daughter of Albert and Mary Comer. She married Thomas D. Lewis on April 20, 1957 in Lafayette, IN and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2003.
She was primarily a homemaker, but very much enjoyed being a “Lunch Lady” at Peru High School in the 70’s and 80’s. Carolyn enjoyed being with family and friends, crafts, making clothes, traveling, camping, motorcycle trips, playing cards and having a day at New Smyrna Beach in Florida. She loved butterflies and humming birds.
She was “Momma Lew” to all of her sons friends in the 70’ and 80’s and beyond. She was a member of C&O Bowling Leagues and the Peru Ladies Golf Association. She loved seeking out and picking black raspberries which she turned in to cobblers, pies and some fantastic jelly. She always looked forward to the Friday dinner out nights with the gang in Peru.
Carolyn enjoyed being a ‘Snow Bird” to Florida every winter for nearly 40 years to Sanford, Florida and then to Mt. Dora Florida, where she met many new friends. Carolyn so loved and was super proud of all six grandkids and was blessed with two beautiful great-granddaughters.
Carolyn is survived by sons David (Pam)Lewis and Brett (Sandy) Lewis. Also surviving are grandchildren Matthew (Indianapolis), Brandon (LaFountaine), Jeffrey & Katie (Oak Harbor, WA), Jessie (Indianapolis), Sarah & Matt Fuller (Peru) and Brad (Portland, OR) and great-granddaughters Maddie Lewis and Nina Fuller; sisters Lyn Pierce (Marion, IN) and Jane Holden (Greensburg); brother Kent (Cora) Comer (Mesa, AR) and lifelong best friend Sue Conger. Along with husband Tom, Carolyn was preceded in death by son Thomas B. Lewis and sisters Jo Inglehearn and Sue Gilliland.
Visitation from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M., Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru with a service following at 6:00 P.M with Donald Fuller officiating. A dinner and celebration of life will follow at the Riverview Event Center where all family and friends are invited.
