Carolyn J. Hanaway, 81, of Peru, passed away at 10:42 A.M., Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo. She was born in Grant County, IN on January 11, 1938, the daughter of Ora and Pauline Graham Miller. Carolyn married John Hanaway in Somerset, IN at the Woodlawn UMC on April 2, 1967 and he survives.
Carolyn was a 1956 graduate of Somerset High School and attended the New Life UMC. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She had been employed by ASCS and also worked as a secretary at various elevators.
Family was very important to Carolyn. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved her family unconditionally. She enjoyed cooking and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Carolyn and John enjoyed going to Florida and the company of their special dog, Anna Sue.
Surviving in addition to her husband, John, is a daughter, Susan Hanaway of Peru; a son David Hanaway of Peru and a sister Marti Dillman and her husband Glen of Flora, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Max Miller and her in-laws Velva and Frances Hanaway.
A service celebrating the life of Carolyn J. Hanaway will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru with Pastor John Meunier officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from Noon to 3:00 P.M., Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Miami County Helping Hands.
