Carol Ann (Boyer) Rush, 77, died surrounded by family Monday, January 20, 2025. She was born October 16, 1947, the daughter of Herman Boyer and Ava (Smith) Middlekauff. She married Danny Dean Rush August 19, 1978, and he survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by children Gretchen (Jason) [Rush] Becker and Nicholas (Jessica) Rush and grandchildren Hayli Irvin, Addi Rush, Kenzie Becker and Annie Becker. Carol first and foremost loved Jesus and shared her love of Christ, teaching her kids and grandkids. Her thoughtful nature put others above self, and she served countless people in the community and often kept lists so she could pray fervently for others. She and Dan attended First Baptist Church of Peru, where Ava also worked and they raised their kids and always had at least one dog under their roof. She loved watching sports, including Peru, Purdue and the Colts, but if it was football or basketball season, Carol would be singing “Hail, Purdue,” while cheering on the Boilermakers loud and proud. With her creative, elementary teacher side, she loved spreading joy through thoughtful homemade cards, gifts, scrapbooking and arts and crafts, especially with a special touch of her favorite wild animals, giraffes. She graduated from Peru High School in 1965, Purdue University in 1969 and also earned a master's degree in teaching at Indiana University Kokomo. For 42 years Carol taught elementary school, influencing thousands of people who came through her classrooms. Carol loved fiercely, and her family came first. She attended every sporting, music and extracurricular event for Nick and Gretchen, and she loved cheering on her grandchildren at their activities. Her sarcastic wit made her a fun-loving daughter, wife, mom, grandmother and friend. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, with services to follow with Pastor Aaron Perry presiding at 6 p.m. at Eikenberry Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Peru or the American Cancer Society.
