Betty Dorsam Obituary

Betty L. Dorsam, 102, of Peru, passed away at 3:32 P.M., Monday, April 25, 2022, at Blair Ridge Assisted Living.  Betty, the daughter of Perry and Susie Ort Demuth, was born in Peru on November 21, 1919.  She married Robert E. Dorsam on November 26, 1947, at St. Charles Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2000.

Betty was a 1940 graduate of Peru High School and a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church all of her life.  She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Altar & Rosary Society, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Betty, a former member of the Literary Club, loved books, and she was an avid reader of a wide variety of literature and poetry for as long as her eyesight allowed.   Betty had also been a member of Peru’s Garden Club. She and her husband Bob earned many awards for the beautiful gladiolas which they grew and hybridized. Aunt Betty also loved to laugh, and she showed her funny side clowning with her son Fred in Peru’s Circus. Aunt Betty took care of children throughout her life from supporting organizations treating and researching cures for pediatric cancer to making blankets for children for Project Linus.

In addition to her parents and husband Bob, Betty was preceded in death by her son Frederick F. Dorsam (1986); by brothers Hugh Elias Demuth and  Norbert Alvin Demuth; and by sisters Edna Ellen Demuth Wagner, Helen Catherine Demuth, Geraldine Martha Demuth Webster, Esther Georgene Demuth, Frances Gwendolyn Demuth Walters Sowers, Andrey Oline Demuth Boon, and  Mary Jane Demuth Schache. Surviving Betty are her granddaughter Molly Dorsam and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews to whom Aunt Betty taught important virtues, including faith, hope, charity, kindness, and patience. Betty, truly a member of the Greatest Generation, will be missed by her family.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for pediatric cancer research to Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, with a designation to PROJECT STELLA, 1100 Fairview Ave. N., Mail Stop J5-200, Seattle, WA 98109, or online at fredhutch.org/project-stella; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
