Born on July 28, 1932, in Robinson, Illinois, Anne was a cherished daughter of John and Gladys Rooney. Anne, affectionately known as “Little Annie Rooney,” began her lifelong love of theatre with her first stage performance in fifth grade. Anne met her future husband, Bill, in their hometown of Robinson, IL. They married in 1952 and made their first home in South Bend, IN, where Bill earned his law degree at Notre Dame. They enjoyed many Notre Dame football games while in South Bend and throughout their nearly 50 years of marriage. Bill joined the Air Force, which afforded Anne and their three children Tom, Jim, and LeeAnne many travel opportunities and unique adventures abroad. His assignments took them to locations such as Detroit; Taipei, Taiwan; San Antonio; Sumter, South Carolina; Kansas City; Izmir, Turkey; and finally Peru, Indiana, where Bill retired and began a private law practice. Both Anne and Bill shared a deep passion for theatre. In 1975, they joined the Ole Olsen Memorial Theatre, contributing significantly over the years. Anne acted in and directed many productions and was well known for her beloved portrayal of “Miss Daisy” in Driving Miss Daisy, a role she reprised three times. Anne served on the Ole Olsen board of directors and was the board’s secretary for many years. During the last ten years, Anne took on the important job of historian, archiving decades of Ole shows. Anne was honored by her Ole family with the Ole Olsen Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award. Outside of theatre, Anne enjoyed knitting, watercolor painting and playing bridge. She once knitted Irish sweaters for her children and grandchildren, famously completing them in time for Christmas. Anne was the school secretary for the Peru Junior High School for 18 years, where she formed many close and enduring friendships. A lifelong Catholic, Anne was a parishioner of St. Charles Church since 1975. Survivors include her son, Thomas Loy (Sallie); her daughter, LeeAnne Reindl (Edward); sister, Carolyn Connelly (Richard); brother, John Rooney (JoAnne); grandchildren Julia and William Reindl (LeeAnne and Ed); and grandchild Brittney Loy (James and Gretchen).
