Ruth Alice (Cook) Hunt

Ruth Alice Hunt, 97, of Amboy, passed away at 10:57 AM, Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at her residence. Ruth was born in Miami County, IN on January 13, 1921, the daughter of Horace D. and Ethel White Cook. Ruth was a 1939 graduate from Butler Township High School. After finishing high school she worked at Kresges. Ruth then married Byron Lee Hunt on November 9, 1941 and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1988. Ruth was a stay home mother until the children grew up and then she went to work at JC Penney’s for over 20 years. She was very active in Home Economics Club and the Friends Church of Amboy where she was a member before she married Byron. She loved gardening, sewing, embroidery and especially her quilting. There wasn’t a family member that didn’t receive a quilt for their wedding, new baby or other special occasion. Ruth also made several quilts for missions. Along with her hobbies she enjoyed helping others at Mission Trips with the church and the Indian Missions but most of all Ruth was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ruth is survived by her sons James Lee Hunt and his wife Judith of Monticello, Noel E. Hunt and his wife Marsha of Amboy, Benji D. Hunt, Peru, Alan Ray Hunt and his wife Karen Peru, and Ted Walter Hunt, Peru; daughter Janet Knight and her husband David of Terre Haute; grandchildren Jaylen Lee Hunt, Jamie Yoder and her husband Steve, Chris D. Hunt and his wife Heather, Anita Jo Glaze and her husband Ryan, Malinda Murphy and her husband Roy, Sarah Ber and her husband Greg, Rebecca Kyler and her husband Jim, Tracy Bautista, Benji Hunt, Jr. and his wife Alyssa, Lisa D. Hunt, Adam M. Hunt and his wife Emeline, Gregory A. Hunt and his wife Kelli and Daniel L. Hunt and his wife Lisa; 35 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Byron Lee Hunt, a grandson Jason Hunt, two brothers Dale Cook and Ross Cook and one sister Doris Kuntz. A service celebrating the life of Ruth Alice Hunt will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Amboy Friends Church, Amboy, IN with Pastor Dwight Elliot officiating. Burial will be at the Amboy Friends Cemetery.  Family and Friends will gather from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Amboy Friends Church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. . In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Amboy Friends Church. The family would like to thank Hospice for the care they gave to Ruth and personally thank Barbara Irene Gingerich, Waneda Graber, Linda Graber and Rita Graber.
